The Eye Medical Clinic of San Jose specializes in the treatment of Ocular Migraines
The common pattern for migraine headache consists of normal symptoms (aura) followed by a headache that can debilitate the patient for several days. Those persons unfortunate enough to inherit this disease must use medication at the beginning of the process in order to ward off or modify the headache. Many patients have ocular migraine with only visual symptoms (aura). Visual experiences can be frightening consisting of from jagged bolts of light to a shimmering defect in field of vision (scintillating scotoma or blind spot) to total loss of ½ of the visual field; all can occur without headache to follow. In elderly patients such symptoms, in addition to actual blackouts, could be a signal of compromised circulation to the brain which should be investigated as soon as possible.
